“Talking @#$%!”—A Panel Discussion on Censorship

Posted on: September 11th, 2013 by insidemctc No Comments

Please join the MCTC Library Sept. 25 at noon in L.1400 for a panel discussion in recognition of national Banned Books Week (Sept. 22–Sept. 28). A panel of Minnesota library staff and educators will discuss the importance of First Amendment rights and intellectual freedom, the impact of censorship and why books, from the classics to Fifty Shades of Gray, and other materials are often challenged—and sometimes banned—in schools, libraries and elsewhere. Panelists will also discuss which books have been frequently banned and challenged and why, and what libraries have done in response to these challenges. There will be time at the end for a question and answer session with panelists. Light refreshments will be provided, but please feel free to bring your lunch and eat at this event!  All students, faculty and staff are welcome.
