MCTC Dakota Studies Faculty Chris Mato Nunpa to Deliver Lecture During Genocide Awareness Month

Chris Mato Nunpa, MCTC instructorMinneapolis Community and Technical College Dakota Studies instructor Chris Mato Nunpa will be delivering a lecture on genocide awareness on April 16 in L.3000 from 6-8 p.m. The lecture, “Sica Tanka Kin, ‘The Great Evil’: The Genocide of the Dakota People of Minnesota,” will focus on the genocide against the Dakota people in recognition of Genocide Awareness Month in April and Minnesota’s own history. This event is sponsored by the American Indian Studies department, Dakota Studies department, Ojibwe Studies Department, Philosophy department and Global Studies department. Chris is an instructor of Dakota Studies at MCTC and a retired professor of Indigenous Nations and Dakota Studies at Southwest Minnesota State University. Click here for a flier.

This summer Chris will be presenting an academic paper by the same title, “Sica Tanka Kin, ‘The Great Evil’: The Genocide of the Dakota People of Minnesota” at the annual conference of the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) in Winnipeg.
