Spirit and Soul: A Celebration of Black Performance Styles

Spirit and Soul photoThe Basilica of Saint Mary and Minneapolis Community and Technical College present Spirit and Soul, A Celebration of Black Performance Styles. This evening of dance, song, and poetry will bring to you performance styles of the Caribbean, West Africa, Brazil, and the United States. The night will be a festive exploration of how elements of African musical traditions transformed, or blended, with European music, catalyzing new forms of expression from capoeira to rock and roll.

MCTC and the Basilica of St. Mary Honor Black History Month

Spirit and Soul exhibitMinneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC) is honored to announce its partnership with the Basilica of St. Mary in celebrating Black History Month. The Basilica is hosting Spirit and Soul: The Culture of Balance, Rhythm and Texture. This exhibit showcases artwork from many MCTC students, and runs through Feb. 23.

An opening reception will be held Thursday, Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. in the Lower Oval Gallery of the Basilica. In addition, the Basilica will host a concert in honor of the exhibit and Black History Month on Friday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. Please note, this event has been cancelled due to inclement weather across the state.
